Today I went to the Natural History museum and was blown away by a room that I for some weird reason managed to miss before, a section filled with various species preserved in jars. I think that there's something beautiful about all these jars with animals, even-though it's obscene with horse babies, big birds and various species in jars, maybe there is something wrong with me...but they fascinate and scare me at the same time.

Here are some more pics from my little Christmas break. This is Ester, one of my oldest sisters cats. She loves to cuddle and cannot put her tongue back properly into her mouth. There's another cat as well, Iris.

Iris is addicted to grift wrap and ribbons so all the Christmas presents had to be put into boxes and baskets or Iris will eat all the ribbons and strings. My sister told me that it got so bad that this cute lady like little cat actually was shitting a few meters of string...imagine that, pooh coming out attached to a few meters of string...yeaick...

And I thought that this was very cute, big brother William and big sister Amanda gave their little sister a Christmas present and on the note it says "Even-though you are so stubborn and sulky we love you very much".

Stockholm pt 1

I am back in London town after a few lovely days in Stockholm. It feels like I have been on a spa trip, fresh air, great food, really nice tap water and long forest walks and coffee breaks by the ocean. But the days are unbelievably short, the sun starts going down already at three o'clock so I ended up walking around in a zombie state in the end. Here are some pics from Gamla Stan/Old Town in Stockholm and of-course the infamous tunnbrödsrulle, the vegetarian option with roasted onion, mashed potatoes, salad, mustard and ketchup and soya hot dogs... mmm,definitely a must try for anyone visiting Sweden.

There's only a few days left to Christmas and I am really looking forward to going to Sweden for a few days and spend some time with family and friends, but most of all I miss my sisters super cute kids. I don't get a lot of time to hang out with them as I live in London so I hope to get plenty of lego and snow fight time with them. My toe and I

When I am not working on various projects or my own products I work as a designer at Ella Doran Design Ltd. and today it was time to shoot some new products and I was asked if I could do some styling and maybe photograph some of the new stuff. And you have no idea how fun I find that kind of work! So fun that I almost broke my toe. I got so hyped up about doing styling that I ran straight into a metallic ladder and yeapp, that was it. Now my toe and I are chilling in bed.

I blame it on myself first of all but nr 2 is definitely the amazing home that we photographed in, I wanted to cry when I saw their massive open brick wall NY style kitchen and the living room filled with designs and objects of all kinds, or the bath room with a large free standing bathtub and a balcony outside, I got so über excited that I started running into objects, big, metallic, objects. But even-though my toe now is three times bigger, deep purple and hurt like hell, it was a great day and here are some pics from that amazing home.

What happened with 2011? Felt like it passed by in a blink and now it's all of a sudden already December and in two weeks I will go to Stockholm, eat a ridiculous amount of princess cake, see my family, drink tap water that tastes better then Evian, be cold and get lost in some forest, breath fresh air and get annoyed with rude Stockholm people who push you around in the underground and slams doors in your face - looking forward to it! For those of you who would like to get more familiar with Swedish culture and traditions, here's a great little film about how we celebrate midsummer.

The nice thing about coming close to the end of a year and starting a new one is that it actually can give you some time to reflect and analyze, while sometimes stressing about being self employed, not having sick pay or a pension plan I am so unbelievably happy to be able to make a living out of my passion and having the luxury of doing something that I really enjoy. This was my first year as self employed, I graduated from Camberwell College a year ago and today a year later I can celebrate and look back at a great year where I became a senior designer at a very nice design company and worked for really great clients. So to all my clients, customers, blog followers and everyone that showed interest in my work, thanks for 2011 and bring it on 2012!

London Aquarium

Me and my shitty camera spent the day at London Aquarium - and it was awesome, even though I never been a fan of watching large animals kept in small spaces, I can't deny the fact that I love to get the chance to see them and getting so close to them. The last few days has been completely insane and I have been very busy - and I love it! Some really fun things has happened that I am not allowed to talk about yet but at least I could celebrate quietly and eat some amazing Italian cake and walk around secretly smiling for a day. Something else that is good, there is finally something worth watching on TV, the Danish crime series The Killing is back with a part 2... this will not be good for my work moral.

And to all Londoners, the cake is from one of the best places to eat in central London, Princi, on 135 Wardour Street, their cake section will make you cry.

Cass Art has this amazing acrylic paint box with 48 different colors but the best thing is the price, £18, brilliant.

Slightly bored even-though I have plenty of work to do, need something new to plunge into and has hooked up with a few illustration and design friends to plan a exhibition for the beginning of next year, fun, fun fun!

Here's a good talk with Stefan Sagmeister about the importance of time off and playing, so I am having a little play today and the images above was what I came up with.

And yes, one more thing, I started to sell my prints in a few shops here in UK and US but I would love to sell some in Sweden as well but don't know any shops dedicated to independent art and design, if you happen to know of any please let me know!

Baby Squizle

This is little Squizle, the name that we gave a baby squirrel that me and my boyfriend ended up being adoptive parents to for two few days last spring. Some guys had found her in their studio and took her to the park where we live, the story sounds a bit suspect I know, why and how would a baby squirrel get into a studio, but who knows? They left her in the park where we live at the same moment as our friend happened to walk by on the way to our house. She was very weak and you could tell that she was not well and it did not feel right to just leave her there in the park but we decided to wait and see if any other squirrel might come and help her but nothing happened. In the end we started getting afraid of a dog or a fox attacking her and ended up taking her to our flat while calling animal organizations to see if there was anyone who could help.

She was the cutest little thing and ate loads and seemed to get more energy and even started to play with us a little bit, but the last day she all of a sudden got worse and just wanted to sleep and be close to us. After two days a animal organization came to collect her and take her to the vet and she was ill and could not be saved.

Forget about cute dogs and kittens, this little squirrel baby with her massive feet and big eyes broke our hearts, it's a shame that we could not save her but at least we could save her from being eaten by a dog or a fox in the park and made sure that she was well taken care of her last two days in life.

Here's a little sneak peak of what I am working on at the moment, a spread with a ocean theme and as I love octopuses there had to be one in the picture.

Talking about the ocean, here is a amazing clip from the Yes Men, officially pretending to be Shell holding a press-conference where they apologize for all the rivers, communities etc that they have been greedy and dumb enough to pollute and ruin for generations to come. You can see the clip here

Imagine when Shell afterwards have to go out and decline that the press conference and all those statements actually weren't theirs... brilliant..

Penguin Party!

Hmm, making nice, funny penguins is harder then I thought, this one is not finished yet, but I think that me and my Wacoom pen slowly, slowly are getting there. I am working on a spread with lot's of wacky penguins and a tired and distressed penguin dad at the moment, lot's of fun!

I don't like to listen to music when I work, I don't know why but I prefer to listen to films and here is a documentary that I recommend about a small Pacific Island which a British mining company decided to exploit with no thoughts of it's environment or population, there was only one problem, the people that lived on the island was not going to let some greedy western company destroy their homes and stroke back. Arrows and poisonous plants vs helicopters and the Papua New Guinea Army, and guess what?

They won!

Mr Crocodile, play that song!

Hello. My name is Burt. Burt the Crocodile.

I love this new project that I am working on. The author likes my quirky ideas so a guitar playing crocodile is definitely no problem.

Here is a glimpse on some of the new characters in the book, or booklet actually, cos it's booklet with song lyrics to a cd that I am illustrating.

I am drawing with a Wacoom pen, which I bought in Bangkok many years ago while thinking, "I will never draw digitally, never, ever " but still for some weird reason I had to get it and for years I had that Wacoom tablet in my room staring at me making me feel guilty and greedy for buying it and never using it. But now it's my savior and I have to take it back, it's actually fun to draw digitally and I am slowly getting used to it and it has a different feel to it and I don't think I will ever want to choose, I like the challenge of working with both hand drawn and digital illustration and the different feel of the different mediums. Enough about that, here is Mr Crocodile and his guitar, not quite finished yet, but almost.

I think that I have changed his color scheme about 20 times now, he has been a tricky one but I am now about to clean him up and finishing him of and then I will I start working on some Panda's doing work out.

New Limited Edition Print

I have a new Limited edition print out, it's called Sleeping Owl and is a mixed media design created with acrylic paint and photography. It's in a limited edition of 50 and each print is signed and numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The prints measure 59.4 x 84.1 cm and is printed on my favorite paper; Hahnemuhle German Etching Paper.

Work in Progress: Imse Vimse Spindel

It's Sunday and I am working on some illustrations for Imse Vimse Spindel/Eensy Weensy Spider that will be in a children's book. I am playing around with the lay out and the colors at the moment, which will set the style and the color scheme of the rest of the book so, this if far from finished and I have a bunch of spiders with umbrellas that also want to be in the book waiting for their turn.

I really enjoy making characters so I am very glad that this project came my way. Now I should get back to my spiders, have a nice Sunday!

I am trying to use the photo I took in Broadstairs of the man standing on the pier in my work, this is where I am at right now so it is still work in progress but there's just something about that photo that I really like. Next week I will start working on a songbook for children that I am quite excited about, I have never illustrated a book before.

Back from Paris.

I am back from Paris with a bag filled with smelly French cheese and swollen feet after being blown away at Paris Design Week and falling in love with the city's boulevards. I have been working at the International Design fair Maison together with a British designer that I work part-time for that was exhibiting at the expo. It was any design interested persons Mecca; 9 massive halls with home accessories, textiles, bedding, furniture, lighting, stationary, ceramics, you name it - it was all there.

After drooling over Flux Stoke-on-trent's porcelain for a week my boss gave me this lovely little espresso cup from their collection called Zoo, designed by Rebecca Hogg. I also met the lovely Donna Wilson and saw some of her new creations and was very close to bringing home Big Ted, but someone else got him before me. I did not bring my camera as it is very big and I was afraid of loosing it, but I harassed one of my colleagues on a daily basis as she had one, so I might have some pics to show you soon.

Now it's time for tea and the to-do-list. And some amazing French brie.

This was my favorite beach, Kingsgate Bay, I had this summers first and only short swim here and it was amazing.

I escaped from my duties and the rescue-my-computer-project yesterday and went to the coast instead. I grew up very close to nature and normally I go to Sweden for 2-4 weeks every summer and make sure that during at-least one of them I sit on a cliff by the ocean and endlessly look at the waves or is to be found some where in a forest where I sit and stare at trees. Nah, not really... but almost. But this summer I have been in London and now I had reached my limit and needed some nature. I dragged my boyfriend on a train and off we went to Broadstairs. It was my holiday 2011 and my phone was completely with it and stopped working and claimed that I was in Belgium and it did feel like I was in a different country. It was frightening to see how healthy people looked in Broadstairs and how grey and shining white and sick we Londoners looked. While thinking about how living in London affects my health I covered my shining white body in sun-block 30 and started my holiday at the centre off Broadstairs which looked like this, like Mallorca or something, then we followed the coast up to Kingsgate Bay which was exactly the kind of place my Scandinavian soul needed. I will definitely go here again.

Today I enjoyed one of the perks of being self employed and not having paid holiday, sick pay etc - freedom! The sun was shining and it felt like a real summer day so I took two hours off and had a look at Spitafields market and at 3PM I sat down on a sunny roof terrace with a pint in my hand and thought that actually, life is pretty damn good. Here are some images from Spitafields vintage market in east London where I live and if any other Londoners read this I can recommend the Pub Red Lion and their roof terrace.

Oh, how I always wanted a boxing rabbit to put in my living room...

If any of my sisters read this then you can start betting on which one of you that will get this lovely stuffed boxing rabbit for Christmas :)

Work in Progress: The Fox in the rain

I love to make characters so I am having fun and will show you the final in the end of the week.

Home with flu, really bored and annoyed as I have had the flu for a few days now and want to get back to work.

On a more positive note, lots of fun things are happening right now that I am quite excited about, which makes me even more annoyed about being sick, I will update you all when I am back up on my feet!

Wild West Sketch

Here's the reason why I never show any sketch book pages, I am a mess. I doodle down ideas on any piece of paper I can get and if you give me a sketch book and I mess up one page, which mostly is the first thing I do, I feel as if I destroyed the new nice lovely book and rip the page out so in the end there's just pages all over my room and lots of empty sketchbooks.

I badly, badly miss Swedish summer. I think that I can deal with the pollution that cut my breathing capacity down by 20% and the tap water that tastes like swimming-pool just because I love London and the Londoners so much, but can I deal with not having any summers?

To cope with it I went to Hampstead Heath and amazingly enough the sun showed up for the first time in a few weeks and it felt like I could breath.

Unbearable excitement!

Who was right about what year it became legal for women in Iran to ride a bike?

I am sorry about that it has taken a while for me to get back to you about who the winner is, the reason is that the question was much trickier then I first thought.

I remember reading in a news paper many few years ago that the law in Iran had changed and women now was allowed to ride a bicycle and I remember how odd it all sounded to me who grew up in Sweden where dads sit outside café’s with their toddlers and discuss sour dough recipe’s with each other and women are doing the same jobs and are practicing the same sports as men. I could not believe that there would be a place on earth where women would not be allowed to cycle. I imagined streets filled with Iranian women on bicycle’s biking just for the sake of it as a way of showing the finger to an repressing regime and I thought that it was great news.

But things seem to have changed since that article and whether women should be allowed to ride bicycles seem to be a controversial issue in Iran and has been so for a long time. There are re-creation parks where women can cycle in special lanes made for women and there are female athletes and tourists cycling through the country while according to various news articles from 2010 and 2011 there are still police chiefs in various cities who consider it a crime for women to cycle or roller-skate in public and who target the women who does.

According to an article in USA Today "The country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced in 1999 that "women must avoid anything that attracts strangers, so riding bicycles or motorcycles by women in public places causes corruption and is thus forbidden.""

It seem as if women are not allowed to cycle in public any more or am I misinformed? Maybe my Iranian readers can enlighten us?

Diesel Island pt 2

Last night we transformed the Diesel store in Covent Garden and on Wednesday night it will be the store on Carnaby Streets turn. Thanks Mina milk for asking me to take part in this project, I had lots of fun!

I didn't think that I could draw plants and trees but voila, now I have bushes and plants in a shop window, fun :) I will post images of the final windows soon - but now I need to catch up on some sleep...

What a shit day.

I felt like being a bit luxurious and get some sushi. I LOVE sushi.

But just when I was going to bite into the first piece I could see a large black insect crawling around in the rice...

Mmm, yummi! I will never ever ever buy sushi from Wasabi again.

Then I went to a cash machine to get cash out to get something else to eat.

The machine swallowed my card and the rest for the day I was cueing in the bank.

At-least I managed to draw a white elk...

If you wonder what the elk is saying it's "Don't buy sushi from Wasabi unless you like insects with it"

I have a studio!

Yesterday I moved into my new studio that I will share with the talented Mina Milk. We are not properly set up yet and probably need to do a little trip to Ikea but this is how it is looking so far. The room is very long and narrow with a very high ceiling and it was quite hard to take photos that properly show the size of it. We are super exited though about finally having our own space and will show more photos of how the studio is developing soon.
